Popularly known as "La Pedrera" (the quarry) for its wavy stone façade without a single straight line, Casa Milà was Antoni Gaudí's last civil work before devoting himself entirely to the Sagrada Família. It was built between 1906 and 1912 as a residential building, and still has occupied flats on its upper floors today.
The rooftop is the star of the show: a sculptural landscape of chimneys and ventilation towers disguised as helmeted warriors, which directly inspired Star Wars' imperial soldiers according to the saga's own designer. The attic, with its brick catenary arches, now houses the "Espai Gaudí" space dedicated to explaining his work.
If you can choose, the night visit ("La Pedrera de Nit") includes an audiovisual experience on the rooftop with the illuminated city as a backdrop — a different experience, and much less crowded than the daytime visit.
