The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, known simply as Barcelona Cathedral, is a Gothic church built between the 13th and 15th centuries over the remains of an earlier Romanesque basilica, right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter.
Its cloister is one of the most distinctive corners of the city: an enclosed garden with palm trees, fountains and thirteen white geese which, according to tradition, represent the years Saint Eulalia, co-patron saint of Barcelona, lived before her martyrdom.
The main façade, neo-Gothic in style and added in the late 19th century, contrasts with the rest of the much older building.
