Barcelona's science museum occupies a restored Modernist building in the upper part of the city, and is one of the few science museums in Europe with a space dedicated to recreating a real ecosystem at full scale: the "Flooded Forest", a living replica of a stretch of Amazon rainforest with over a hundred species of plants and animals under the same roof, including an area that floods periodically just as it does in the real jungle.
The rest of the museum combines permanent exhibitions on geology, evolution and physics with interactive rooms specifically designed for kids to experiment rather than just read panels, plus a planetarium with separate sessions.
General admission is surprisingly cheap for what's on offer, though several of the special activities and workshops (planetarium included) are charged separately.
Since it's a bit removed from the centre, in the Tibidabo area, it's worth planning it as a half-day excursion rather than a quick stop between other plans.
