Palau Güell

Palau Güell was the first major commission that industrialist and patron Eusebi Güell gave to a still-young Antoni Gaudí, built between 1886 and 1890 just steps from La Rambla, in the heart of El Raval.

Inside, its central hall is the standout: a triple-height space topped by a parabolic dome perforated with small holes that, at night, were lit up to simulate a starry sky — a solution Gaudí would later refine and repeat in other works.

The rooftop is the other main feature: twenty chimneys and vents covered in fragments of ceramic and glass, an early rehearsal of the style Gaudí would push to its fullest expression at Casa Milà almost two decades later.
