Park Güell

The part that appears on every postcard — the hypostyle hall with its Doric columns and the wavy bench covered in colourful trencadís mosaic — charges admission and has limited capacity, so it's worth booking a time slot a few days ahead.

But the park is far bigger than that monumental zone, and the free part is worth it on its own: paths among pine trees, viewpoints over the sea and the Eixample, and the house where Gaudí lived for almost twenty years, now a museum.

If you want to avoid crowds, enter early through the Carretera del Carmel gate, further from the centre, and walk toward the monumental zone rather than the other way around.
