The best panoramic views of Barcelona

Barcelona has several high points from which you can see almost the whole city at a glance, and not all of them require an entry fee or a queue. Here's a selection of the viewpoints that are genuinely worth the climb.

Bunkers del Carmel

The most photographed free viewpoint in the city. Bunkers del Carmel are the remains of an anti-aircraft battery from the Civil War, on top of Turó de la Rovira, with 360-degree views over Barcelona and the sea. No transport goes right to the top: you have to walk uphill from the Carmel neighborhood, but the view makes up for it, especially at sunset.

Montjuïc Castle

From Montjuïc mountain, the castle offers views over the port, the sea and much of the Eixample. You can go up by cable car from Poble Sec or by bus, making it the best-view-for-least-effort option on this list.

Tibidabo

The highest point in Barcelona, with the amusement park and the Temple of the Sacred Heart at the top. From there you can see the whole city, the sea and, on clear days, even the Pyrenees. You get there via the Tramvia Blau and a funicular, a ride that's already part of the experience.

Park Güell

From the terrace of the central square in Park Güell, with the wavy mosaic bench in the foreground, you get one of Barcelona's best-known views, with the Sagrada Família peeking out between the Eixample's buildings.

MNAC steps

In front of the MNAC, on Montjuïc, the staircase looks straight down toward Plaça Espanya and the Venetian Towers, with the Eixample in the background. It's free, you don't need to go inside the museum, and it usually has far fewer people than the other viewpoints on this list.
